I keep hearing about the “fetal ejection reflex” that supposed to kick in and assist you to push and lets your body know when to push. Why don’t they wait? I mean she still did it in less than 5 min so guess it’s relative for each labor

What’s the benefit / risk of waiting until you feel the urge to push? Why are they forcing it?

My 5th baby was 9 lbs 1 oz, came feet first and was painless without an epidural. I'm pregnant with #7. #6 was very difficult and painful and there were many days of prodromal labor because there was a lot of turmoil in my life and my entire family started to come into town for our very first family reunion as i started having my prodromal labor. I am not sure what about #5 made it so easy and painless. It was my only water birth, but i am not convinced that was a major factor as I've labored a lot in water with a few others and it never made that difference with them. But i feel like this one i am likely to experience something the same or better. My 5th was unassisted and only with my husband and a very quiet and reverent friend taking photos and I'm a very private person. No one knew i was in labor that either wasn't there or that didn't absolutely have to know (like my BFF that was watching my other kids). I'm excited to find out what happens with the next one. I'm not afraid even though my last one was very hard and painful.
